Here you will find
information about sizes, widths, and thicknesses. This
will help you with selecting dimensions for your ring.
Sizing
You will need to know your
ring size before ordering. It's important to get an accurate size
because otherwise you will have to send the ring back for resizing. You
can see the resizing policy here. It can be a
little tricky to get just the right size, as there can be variations in
the sizes of ring sizers, and they are usually pretty narrow. However a
cheap ring sizer will still give you a very good idea of what
size you need. You can have your finger sized at pretty much any
jewelry store, and they usually have metal sizers which are a little
better than the plastic ones. Also remember that a narrower ring will
fit looser than a wider ring.
Titanium Concepts rings are
machined to precise tolerances. The ring sizes are based off of this sizing chart. The inside diameter is machined to the appropriate dimension, most
rings end up being within +/-.001 inches tolerance. The best way to get
an accurate size is to find a ring that fits and have the jeweler
measure the inside diameter with calipers (not a sizing stick) to get
an exact dimension of the inside diameter. You can then compare the
dimension to the sizing chart.
Width,
thickness, and proportion
Width, thickness, and ring size play an important factor in how
the ring will look. If you are ordering a pair of rings and want
them to look alike, generally you want the bigger ring to be a
little wider and a little thicker, that will keep the 2 rings
looking proportional to each other.
Width
After you've figured out what size you need, you'll need to figure
out how wide you want the ring. 3-4mm is pretty narrow (around 1/8 inch)
and will sit right at the base of your finger. 5-6mm is a little
wider but still not too wide. 7mm (just over 1/4 inch) is starting
to get to where it will start covering more of your finger rather
than just sitting at the base of it. 8mm and up I consider a fairly
wide ring. 10mm is just over 3/8 inch. 12mm is just under 1/2
inch and 13mm just over 1/2 inch.
Also, the ring size will have an affect on how
wide the ring looks (and feels), so you'll have to take this into
consideration. A size 5 ring that's 10mm wide will look more like
a tube, while a size 15 that's 10mm wide will just look more like
a normal band.
Thickness
I offer selectable thicknesses for most of my rings, from 1.50mm
to 2.50mm. For most rings I recommend 1.75-2.0mm thick, this is
a good average thickness that's not to thin but not too thick.
If your ring is a small ring (around size 4-7) or is very narrow
(3-4mm wide) then I recommend going with the 1.50-1.75mm thick.
If your ring is a larger ring (size 13+), or a very wide ring,
then you might want to go a little thicker, 2.0-2.50mm
Also note that if the ring has angled surfaces,
the width of the ring will affect how wide the edge is. So if
it's a ring like the Saturn or the Metro
Mod the wider you go the thicker you will want to go
in order to keep the edges from being too pointy.
You will have to use your judgement on what's
the best width and thickness for your ring, or if you're not sure
you can always ask me what I would recommend.
Thickness Examples
Here are some cutaway pictures of the different thicknesses, each
ring is 7mm wide.
